This cake is one of the best known representatives of the confectionery of the Terres de l'Ebre, with a marked Arab influence. In fact, the birth of this sweet is attributed to a contest held in the eleventh century by a governor of the city of Tortosa, at that time under Saracen rule.
It is a dry and crunchy paste, sugary on top, which takes the shape of a crest, crescent. The dough is made with flour, oil, sugar and mistela or brandy and is filled with angel hair jam and sweet potato jam and, more recently, also brossat. They are usually taken for breakfast, snacks or between meals and have a long shelf life.
It is sold in pastry shops and bakeries in Terres de l'Ebre.
